| 内容記述 | 日本産八放サンゴ類 (Octocorallia) の分類学に基づく研究は, 江戸時代末期に米国が行った調査探検航海において, 鹿児島湾沖からウミキノコ属の一種を新種記載したStimpson (1855)の研究から始まり, 現在までの160余年間に660種を超す八放サンゴ類が発表されてきた. また日本は他国と比べると海洋生物に関する図鑑類が多く, 八放サンゴ類も多くの図鑑類に掲載されてきた. その結果, 原著論文上で提唱された和名がある一方で, 図鑑類において提唱された和名も多く, 和名の中には著者や出版年によって一つのタクソンに対して異なる和名が付けられていたケースも散見される. このように日本から記録された八放サンゴ類が660種を超すことと, 学名 (二名法に基づかない不適格な名義も含む) と和名に混乱が見られることから, 本稿では2023年7月末時点で日本から報告された日本産八放サンゴ類の学名と和名の整理を行った (領海内と近周辺海域を含む). 整理に当たって, 日本産八放サンゴが初めて記録されて以来現在までの約160年間には, 分類学の発展に伴って属名の変更や科レベル以上のタクソンにおいても概念の変更に伴いタクソンの名称や位置づけの変更が生じていることと, 和名においても名義の変更のほかに日本語に特有の漢字, カタカナ, ひらがなの表記法が入り混じっていたことを踏まえて, 本稿ではこのような学名の変更と共に和名の変更と, 属位が変更された場合は変更前後の名義と和名の変遷も記録として留めた. なお,リストにはこれまでに国内で出版され書誌に掲載された日本産以外の八放サンゴ類も掲載するとともに，これまで和名の付いていなかったタクサについては, 本稿で新たに和名を提案した.なお八放サンゴ類の分類体系は, 近年蓄積されてきた系統ゲノム解析結果を整理して, 多くの高次タクサの変更を含む大きな改訂が発表された(McFadden, et al. 2022, 2024). しかし本稿は既往文献で発表された日本産八放サンゴを一元的にリスト化することを目的としていることから,調査した文献で使用されていた分類体系を大きく変更することは, 本リストの内容の理解に混乱を生じるリスクが高いと判断されたので, 本リストでは形態情報に基づく分類体系である旧体系を採用した. なお, 本リストが将来に渡り活用されることを念頭に置いて, 文末に新旧分類体系の対照表も掲載した. | |||||||||||||||||

| 内容記述 | Taxonomic studies on Japanese octocorals began with the study of Stimpson (1855), who described a new species of the genus Sarcophyton (Octocorallia, Alcyonacea, Alcyoniidae) from off Kagoshima Bay collected by the U.S. North Pacific Exploring Expedition in the late Edo period. Over the following 160 years, more than 660 species of octocorals were published in papers by researchers from the Japanese waters. On the other hand, advances in taxonomy have caused changes in the classification system and scientific names in addition to the discovery of new species and new distributional areas, and many taxa had their scientific names changed from when they were initially described. In addition, since Japan has many picture guide books on marine life, information on octocorals has also been published in many of those books in the Japanese language. Taxa are usually addressed by Japanese names in non-professional cases such as in public discussion and in general education in Japan. As a result, while Japanese names have been proposed in many original scientific papers, such as new species descriptions and new distribution records, many Japanese names have also been proposed in picture guidebooks. Among such Japanese names, there are some cases where different Japanese names are given to one taxon depending on the author and the year of publication. Since there are more than 660 species of octocorals recorded from Japan and there needs to be clarity about both the scientific and Japanese names, we have arranged the scientific names and Japanese names of all Japanese octocorals so that researchers can understand their synonymic relationships. Such arrangements, especially in education and public administration situations, are essential to provide better linkages between modern systematics and previous works. This list also includes non-Japanese octocorals published in Japanese books, and for taxa that did not have a Japanese name so far, for which we have proposed a new Japanese name. In organizing the scientific names and Japanese names, the changes in taxon names accompanying the development of taxonomy and changes in the writing methods of “kanji,” “katakana,” and “hiragana” unique to Japanese were recorded. McFadden et al. (2022, 2024) extensively revised the system of high-order taxa of octocorals. However, this paper aims to compile a unified list of the previously published octocoral species from Japan. Thus, we decided not to follow the new classification system of McFadden et al. (2022, 2024). However, as the purpose of our list is to compile a unified list of the previously published octocoral taxa from Japan, we have avoided the possible risk of causing further confusion by proposing a comparison table of the classification of McFadden et al. (2022) and the former classification system, with Japanese standard names. The classification system for the octocorals used in this list is as follows. 1. Alcyonacea (1) Protoalcyonaria (2) Stolonifera (including Telestacea) (3) Alcyoniina (4) Gorgonians (Scleraxonia, Holaxonia and Calcaxonia) (5) incertae sedis in Alcyonacea ・Parasphaerascleridae ・Speirogorgia 2.
