In March 1994 the study area was selectively logged with a harvest intensity of 7.1%. All trees with DBH higher than 8.0cm were cut at 20cm high above the ground. After the selective logging the study area was laid in natural without any manmade disturb. In the present study a tree census was conducted 8 years after selective logging from October to December 2002. The result indicated the decay states of stumps were different in terms of DBH groups, species and life-form spectra. 2.8% of the stumps remained original figure, 60.8% of them were partly decaying, 6.6% of them could not been seen but with living sprout, and 29.8% of stumps were dead without living sprout. The results suggested the mortality rate of stumps increased with years compared to that in clear-cut stands nearby. The surviving states of residual trees changed distinctly by DBH groups, species and life-form spectra. 内容記述 伐採跡地の天然更新、すなわち伐採後に人為的育林施業を加えない植生回復、二次遷移に関する継続研究の経過を報告する。琉球大学農学部附属亜熱帯フィールド科学教育研究センター、与那フィールドに設定した実験地は、皆伐更新(1992年度設定)、択伐更新(1993年度設定)、帯状皆伐更新(1994年度設定)の3林分から成る。実験地は200m^2(20m×10m、100m^2に分割)に区画された永久プロットが4~5個づつ配置され、天然林の毎木調査と植生調査後、伐採対象木は地上高20cmで伐倒された。択伐更新実験地の設定8年後の2000年10月~12月に調査され、伐採された根株の腐朽と生存状態、残存木の生育状態について、類型化による解析結果をまとめた。択伐更新実験地は、DBH(胸高直径)8cm以上のイタジイ、ヒサカキサザンカ、ヤブツバキ、タイミンタチバナ、イスノキ、シマミサオノキなどの立木が伐深され、伐採本数率は7.1%であった。根株の腐朽状態はDBH、樹種、樹種の生活形による違いがみられた。根株の腐朽状態を4類型化したものでは、2.8%が原型を留め、60.8%が部分的腐朽、6.6%が萌芽茎を発生して完全な根株腐朽、29.8%が萌芽茎の発生もなく完全な根株腐朽を示した。皆伐更新試験地の状況を含めて考えると、根株の枯死率は経過年に伴って増大する傾向にあることを暗示した。同様に残存木の生育状態についても、7類型化によりDBH、樹種、樹種の生活形の間で明らかな差異がみられた。残存木は58.2%が健全な状態で生育し、41.8%に何らかの支障がみられた。支障木の内訳は、全残存木当り4.1%が先枯れで生存しているもの、15.4%が先折れで生存しているもの、1.2%が立木の形状を留めたまま枯死しているもの、1.1%が倒木状態で生存しているもの、2.9%が倒木状態で萌芽茎の発生がみられるもの、17.1%が倒木状態で枯死しているものであった。根株では原型を留めているものでも腐朽が進行することが察せられ、残存木の生育状態では支障木、また健全木でも今後の経過をみていく必要がある。これらの状況はDBH、樹種、樹種の生活形によって差異があり、択伐林施業を考える上で重要であることが示唆された。
