photosynthetic mode in vitro pineapple plantlets, crown of pineapple (Ananas comosus L. Merr. cv. Smooth cayenne, N67-10) were cultured in vitro under photoautotrophic conditions on Murashige and Skoog medium. CO_2 dependent O_2 evolution were determined with the gas phase oxygen electrode system at 900 \u03bcmol\u30fbm^\u003c-2\u003e\u30fbs^\u003c-1\u003e of PFD, 3% of CO_2,1 L\u30fbmin^\u003c-1\u003e of flow rate, and 2.5(cm)^2 of disk area. The photosynthetic ability of tissue cultured plantlets were induced at early stages of the culture. Sugar content in medium altered the leaf sugar content, resulting in influence the leaf photosynthetic rate. Malate contents in leaves were increased at dark period and decreased at light period, suggesting the performance of the CAM type photosynthesis. However, diurnal changes in CO_2 concentration in culture vessel were similar to the type of C_3 photosynthesis.
