Lead Rice belonging to Oryza sativa, the present investigation was carried. Completely male-sterile strain which was seemed to have the genetic backgrounds of cv. Taichung 65 (japonica) except for male sterility-inducing cytoplasm of Lead Rice was used as female parent and 511 native lowland-rice varieties were as male parent. The pollen and seed fertilities in each F_1 hybrid plant were observed, and was determined whether the fertility-restoring gene(s) in each male parent was present or not. One hundred and seventy-five varieties (ca. 34%) carrying fertility-restoring gene(s) and 336 non-carriers (ca. 66%) were found.
