内容記述 This paper is concerning a construction of a human powered oscillating wing ship and some results of the performance. One of the authors has over ten years experiensce of the study on the carangiform animal swimming. They have recognized the carangiform swimming as an oscillating wing motion mechanism which is constituted\nfrom a heaving and a pitching motions of a lunate-shape tail. They carefully observed the motion of animals such as dolphin, carp and tilapia, and then introduced a new dimensionless number, swimming number Sw=u/(f・l), which represents an ability of the animal's swimming relating with the beating frequency and the body length. On the basis of their recognition of the oscillating wing mechanism, they have a lot of experiences to make a small artificial mechanical fish, a large mechanical fish and an oscillating fin ship which was driven\nby a two cycle motorbike engine. And now, they have constructed a human powered ship with the basically same idea and the same mechanism. This new ship has been examined by the authors on the surface of a pond located in the university campus. The propelling performance of the ship was cleared to be influenced by many conditions, such as the fin shape, the stiffness of the coil spring which constitutes the important\npart of the oscillating mechanism, the human power, and the others. The best combination of the parts, so far, showed the maximum propelling speed about 0.97m/s and the mean swimming number about 0.49, which almost satisfied the designed value.
