BOD removed can be expressed by following relationship (Eckenfelder and McCabe, 1960): (dL)/(dt)=-KL (2) where K=logalithmic BOD removal rate (1/hr). These equation (1) and (2) may be integrated simultaneously to the following result: S=(aKL₀)/(K-K₃)(e^〈-K₃t〉-e^〈-Kt〉)+S₀e^〈-K₃t〉(3) where L₀=initial concenration of BOD(ppm).S₀=initial concentration of sludge (ppm). This equation is tried out if it is fitted to experimental result by using glucose and (glucose+pepton) as substrate. The result is shown in Fig. 2 and 3.
