Two types of intercellular spaces are recognized in the root of Oryza sativa L., namely, the diamond-shaped space emerged in the zone of maturation. The diamond-shaped spaces are formed schizogenously, become visible in the outer layer of the thin-walled parenchyma at the level proximately 50μ or less from the tip where the root cap still persists. The formation of the spaces proceeds centripetally in the cross section; in other words, the cells of outer portion in the cortex are older than inner ones. Williams (1947) has indicated that in the tip of primary root in various vascular plants the cell layer, which becomes the endodermis finally, acts like a cambium giving rise to all tissues of the cortex. The cambial nature of endodermal cells was confirmed also in the previous paper on the rice root of the author (Shimabuku, 1960). Present observation should be noticed in this connection. From the fact that in the present study the centripetal formation of schizogenous spaces is found among the thin-walled parenchymatous cells, it may be conceivable that the cambial nature of endodermal cells, moreover, is brought to light. The level at which the diamond-shaped intercellular spaces appear agrees with Boeke's observation (1940). It is an interest fact in the present observation that the level is almost constant in any case, while the range of the zone of the active cell division and of elongation fluctuate considerably according to kind and growing stage of the root and other conditions. The principal forming patterns of the wheel-shaped space appeared in the zone of maturation are as follows: 1) the parenchymatous cells separate each other along the radial walls, then contruct their size and are disorganized, finally the schizogenous spaces combined one by one form themselves into a large space in radial rows (Fig. 4); 2) some spaces being formed by disintegration of the radial walls of the cells and the diamond-shaped spaces are united into large one (Fig. 5); and 3) large cavities emerge in disintegration of the radial walls of the cells, then the diamond-shaped spaces are enveloped in collapsed cell walls (Fig. 6). These patterns, however, could not be observed individually through observation in a cross section but they were combined each other in many cases. In the wheel-shaped spaces, partly disintegrated or collapsed cells appear along the periphery of the space in any way. From the described above, it may be proper to apply the term lysigenous space to the wheel-shaped space in the cortex of rice roots, regardless of the opinion of some authors that the term schizogenous should be applied to the space.
Other
論文
Other"}]}, "item_1617186643794":
Publisher
subitem_1522300295150": "ja", "subitem_1522300316516": "沖縄農業研究会"}, {"subitem_1522300295150": "en", "subitem_1522300316516": "Okinawa Agriculture Research Society"}]}, "item_1617186702042":
Language
subitem_1551255818386": "jpn"}]}, "item_1617186920753":
Source Identifier
subitem_1522646500366": "ISSN", "subitem_1522646572813": "1344-1477"}, {"subitem_1522646500366": "NCID", "subitem_1522646572813": "AN00083297"}]}, "item_1617186941041":
Source Title
subitem_1522650068558": "ja", "subitem_1522650091861": "沖縄農業"}]}, "item_1617187056579":
"item_1617258105262":
"item_1617265215918":
Version Type
subitem_1522305645492": "VoR", "subitem_1600292170262": "http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85"}]}, "item_1617605131499":
["1642838310754", "1642838412624
["イネの根における細胞間隙の観察
