The pH values were 4.7, 5.6, 6.1, 6.4 and 7.1 for the 10:0, 9:1, 8:2, 6:4 and 2:8 mixtures, respectively. The growth of the cucumber seedlings as determined by number of leaf, length of stem, and fresh and dry weights, was best obtained on the 9:1 mixtures followed by the 8:2. The seedlings showed symptoms likely to be calcium deficiency on the 10:0 mixtures of check and probable symptoms of manganese deficiency on the 2:8 mixtures. 内容記述 粘板岩を母材とする酸性土壌(赤色土)に炭カル成分を含むサンゴ砂を種々の割合で混ぜ,それを培地として地這キウリをポットに育苗し,酸性土壌対サンゴ砂の混合割合とキウリ苗生育の関係を調べた。酸性土壌対サンゴ砂の混合割合は10:0(No.1区),9:1(No.2区),8:2(No.3区),6:4(No.4区),2:8(No.5区)の5段階とした。混合培地のpHはNo.1区(対照区)で4.7,No.5区で7.1となった。播種後3週目のキウリ苗の生育を本葉数、茎長,根の伸長,生重(地上部+根)などのパラメーターで比較すると,何れもNo.2区(pH5.6)で最も良く,次にNo.3区(pH6.1)であった。キウリ苗の乾物%はNo.3区で9.4%と最も高かったが,苗全体の乾物重はやはりNo.2区で最大であった。No.2及びNo.3区に比べるとNo.1及びNo.5区のキウリの生育は著しく悪かったが,その主な原因は発現症状によりNo.1区ではカルシウム欠乏,No.5区ではマンガン欠乏によるものと考えられた。以上より酸性土壌にサンゴ砂は有用であると考えられるが,供試土壌におけるキウリ育苗の場合サンゴ砂約10%(土壌対サンゴ砂=9:1)を混ぜて培地とするのが最適であった。
