The major clinical symptom was abdominal pain, 19 cases with local peritonitis and 9 with melena. Of the 30 cases, 18 patients had right colonic, 10 had left colonic, and 2 had bilateral colonic diverticula. Preoperative diagnoses were 6 cases of acute appendicitis, 3 recurrent diverticuhtis, 2 diverticular perforation, 8 intestinal bleeding, 1 colovesical fistula, 5 intestinal stenosis, and 5 cases of intra-abdominal abscess with a palpable mass. The surgical procedures performed were ileocecal resection in 9 cases, partial resection of the ascending colon in 1, right hemicolectomy in 9, sigmoidectomy in 7, and left hemicolectomy in 1 case. Primary anastomosis was performed in all the cases. Hartman n\u0027s procedure was used in two cases. Right-sided diverticular disease was associated with a high incidence of diverticuhtis and bleeding, while the left-sided type with stenosis. In the bilateral type, bleeding was observed. Postoperative complications were 2 cases of wound infection and 1 case each of intra-abdominal abscess, intestinal obstruction, and congestive heart failure. All cases were treated conservatively. So far recurrence of diverticular disease has not been observed in any of our cases.
