The data of blood pressure, cholesterol and ECG findings of 10,417 females and 6,352 males who lived in natural comunities of Okinawa Prefecture by Mimura et al were used as a control to compare. The results were as follows. 1. In the male series, the mean systolic blood pressure level was comparative to that of eighties and seventies, while the mean diastolic blood pressure level was lower than that of eighties and seventies, but the difference was insignificant. In the female series, the mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure leveles were significantly higher than those of younger aged groups. It could be postulated that hypertension of high aged peoples was benign and normal blood pressure was not necessarily indispensable as a contributing factor to their longevity. 2. The mean total cholesterol levels of the males and the females were very significantly lower than that of younger ages. Lipoprotein analysis of the high aged peoples revealed that their characteristic lipoprotein patterns were hypo $ \\beta $ -Iipoproteinemia and high $ \\alpha $ - lipoproteinemia. It has been noted that annular changes of lipoproteins levels in aged people are not great. Hence, these lipoprotein patterns were taken to contribute to the reduction of the occurrance of atherosclerotic diseases in these high aged peoples. 3. ECG changes such as Q/QS patterns (Minesota Code I-1,2), ST-T patterns(Minesota Code IV and V), Bundle Branch Block(Minesota Code VI-1,2) which have been known to have strict relationship to annular mortality and cardiovascular death among old people were more frequent in the high aged people over 90 years than younger people. It appeared that on the basis of ECG findings the heart diseases of the peoples over 90 years were not benign.", "subitem_description_type": "Other"}, {"subitem_description": "4. There were significant correlations between ECG findings and sex, age, blood pressure, total cholesterol, smoking, activities of daily living, obstructive lung disease and mitral regurgitation among the high aged peoples over 90 years. 5. ECG findings such as Q/QS patterns (Minesota Code -1, 2) and major ST-T patterns (Minesota Code -1, 2 and, or Minesota Code -1, 2) were choiced as a criteria of coronary heart disease and blood pressures ,total cholesterol, triglyceride and hpoproteins were compared between the subjects with the above mentioned ECG findings and those without the ECG findings. All of the above mentioned clinical data except cholesterol in male seriese were comparative in both groops. Total cholesterol in male seriese was higher in the subjects with the ECG changes than the subjects without the ECG changes. The difference sujjested the possibility of total cholesterol to be coronary risk factor in the high aged male population. 6. No one had glucosuria and few peoples showed elevated levels of fasting blood sugar. Glucose tolerance of these aged peoples seemed to be preserved very well. 7. About one- fifth of subjects showed mild renal failure and it seemed to be caused by renal sclerosis. There were several significant correlations between blood pressure, lipid fractions, lipoproteins and other clinical data. The point of interest of such correlations was that the relation of HDL-C to lipid fractions and other lipoproteins suggested the possibility that the role of HDL in cholesterol transport from tissue to liver became weak in the high aged people. 9.
