In order to evaluate the functions of tonsils, for vitamin C and iron which are of redox substances in tonsilar tissue, the following simultaneous quantitative determinations are performed in the tonsilar tissues those including total vitamin C, reduced vitamin C and oxidized vitamin C by the dinitrophenyl hydrazine (DNP) method, total iron, heme iron and non-heme iron by the batho-phenanthroline and O-phenanthroline methods, and, the comparative evaluations of those fluctuations with those in the previous report are proceeded in accordance with the relationship between total vitamin C and non-heme iron in view of the various clinical findings. In the individual fluctuations, the data of each component of vitamin C was basically not differed from those tendencies in the previous report, however, the data of irons tended to differ from those previously reported, of which the sequences of analysed method have been discussed. The relationship between total vitamin C and non-heme iron is only proved to maintain the correlation at 10% significant level in the lingual tonsils, and, furthermore the fairly positive relation is found in the evaluation for the partial correlations with ages in the lingual tonsils, however, the other correlations are entirely denied such as the 10% significant levels of single correlation and partial correlation, and 5% significant level of multiple correlation, which are including the single and partial correlation with ages of each tonsilar tissue, the single correlation in each disease of palatine tonsils, the single correlation in various stages of inflammatory conditions in palatine tonsils, the partial and multiple correlation in the hypertrophied degree of palatine tonsils, the partial and multiple correlation with blood ASO-titers. |
