(1985), however, has some inconvenient features, such as singularity in the element integrals due to the characteristics of mapping and difficulty in connecting the infinite element to any interior element in the region to be analyzed. It is therefore required to remove these fatal properties for extension of FEM to the nonlinear unbounded wave problems. The present paper develops a new infinite element based on an idea for the infinite mapping, proposed recently by introducing the complementary element.
