内容記述 研究概要:(1).瀬底島サンゴ礁において、海水中の炭酸系成分のシステマチックな時系列観測を5年間継続しておこなった。海水中の二酸化炭素濃度は、昼間に低く、夜間に高い日周変化を示す。これは、昼間には光合成と石灰化が卓越し、夜間には呼吸が卓越することによる。 (2).流向流速計を用いた海水の流動解析をおこない、さんご礁の炭酸系変動の日周変動を説明できるボックスモデルを構築した。 (3).海水中の二酸化炭素濃度の変動を周期解析すると、最も主要な変動周期は、約26.7時間であった。これは、海水中の二酸化炭素濃度変動が、太陽の日射量変動よりも、むしろ月の運行に関連した潮位変動に大きく規定されることを示している。それ以外にも、13時間、6.5時間などの短時間の周期変動があり、複合的なメカニズムによって規定されることが示唆される。 (4).短周期の成分変動を除去して、年間を通した長周期の変動をみると、二酸化炭素濃度は、おおよそ、月単位でブロック上に変化し、夏に向かって上昇する傾向と、冬に向かって減少する傾向が確認された。この変動は、主として、海流の循環にともなう季節変動に支配されていると示唆された。サンゴ礁炭酸系変動と地球環境変動の関係を解明するためには、炭酸系変動の長周期因子の解明が必要であることがわかった。 (5).瀬底島で構築した炭酸系変動ボックスモデルをレユニオン島のサンゴ礁に適用したところ、炭酸系の日周変動をうまく説明できることが確認された。これによりサンゴ礁の炭酸系をグローバルな視点から整合的に評価する方法を確立することができた。 (6)以上により、サンゴ礁における炭酸系変動と地球環境変動について解明するための基礎を確立した。
