The island is mostly covered with beautiful subtropical evergreen broad-leaf-tree forests. The forests support many endemic species, such as the Iriomote Wildcat (Prionailurus bengalensis iriomotensis). The population of the island was 2,284 as of December 2009, while the number of tourists who visited in 2009 was 304,440. Many islanders and some volunteers have been collecting marine litter on beaches of the island. The amount collected on May 25, 2008, on a beach in Funaura Bay was 6.305 m^3. The collected items included polystyrene foam, plastic bottles, fishing gear, fluorescent tubes, electric bulbs, plastics, and more. The number of plastic bottles collected from Hinai Beach on April 20, 2008, was 918:252 of them had labels with bar codes while 666 bottles had no label. By using the numbers in the bar codes, we could identify the origin of the products. The collected plastic bottles came from various countries: 53% from China, 22% from Taiwan, 7% from Japan, 8% from South Korea, and others from Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, Egypt, the Philippines, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, and Russia. The northeast wind in winter may be one of the main causes of the flow of trash from China and South Korea to the beach. Most of the plastic bottles from southern countries such as Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Taiwan may have been brought by the Kuroshio Current to the island. Large amounts of marine litter, mostly from outside the island, still exist on beaches and coastal areas. The islanders are facing difficulties in processing collected marine litter as well as removing it because they have only limited funding and labour. Immediate action not only at the domestic but also the international level is required to reduce marine litter.", "subitem_description_type": "Other"}, {"subitem_description": "論文", "subitem_description_type": "Other"}]}, "item_1617186643794": {"attribute_name": "Publisher", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_1522300295150": "en", "subitem_1522300316516": "the International Institute for Okinawan Studies, University of the Ryukyus"}, {"subitem_1522300295150": "ja", "subitem_1522300316516": "琉球大学国際沖縄研究所"}]}, "item_1617186702042": {"attribute_name": "Language", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_1551255818386": "jpn"}]}, "item_1617186783814": {"attribute_name": "Identifier", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_identifier_type": "HDL", "subitem_identifier_uri": "http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12000/34008"}]}, "item_1617186920753": {"attribute_name": "Source Identifier", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_1522646500366": "ISSN", "subitem_1522646572813": "2185-4882"}]}, "item_1617186941041": {"attribute_name": "Source Title", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_1522650068558": "en", "subitem_1522650091861": "International journal of Okinawan studies"}]}, "item_1617187056579": {"attribute_name": "Bibliographic Information", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"bibliographicIssueDates": {"bibliographicIssueDate": "2011-06-30", "bibliographicIssueDateType": "Issued"}, "bibliographicIssueNumber": "1", "bibliographicPageEnd": "60", "bibliographicPageStart": "47", "bibliographicVolumeNumber": "2"}]}, "item_1617258105262": {"attribute_name": "Resource Type", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"resourcetype": "journal article", "resourceuri": "http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]}, "item_1617265215918": {"attribute_name": "Version Type", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_1522305645492": "AM", "subitem_1600292170262": "http://purl.org/coar/version/c_ab4af688f83e57aa"}]}, "item_1617605131499": {"attribute_name": "File", "attribute_type": "file", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"accessrole": "open_access", "download_preview_message": "", "file_order": 0, "filename": "Vol2No1p47.pdf", "future_date_message": "", "is_thumbnail": false, "mimetype": "", "size": 0, "url": {"objectType": "fulltext", "url": "https://u-ryukyu.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/2008250/files/Vol2No1p47.pdf"}, "version_id": "948ec6cc-080d-415b-86b8-692c2b33fc64"}]}, "item_title": "西表島の海岸漂着ゴミヘの一考察", "item_type_id": "15", "owner": "1", "path": ["1642837624542", "1642838412624"], "permalink_uri": "http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12000/34008", "pubdate": {"attribute_name": "PubDate", "attribute_value": "2016-05-16"}, "publish_date": "2016-05-16", "publish_status": "0", "recid": "2008250", "relation": {}, "relation_version_is_last": true, "title": ["西表島の海岸漂着ゴミヘの一考察"], "weko_shared_id": -1}
