Modern diagnostic modalities with utilization of super-selective angiography and hormonal assays as well as clear understandings of adrenal physiology have made it possible to determine the nature and exact localization of the adrenal lesion, thereby avoiding unnecessary exploration. We have experienced 61 cases of surgical adrenal diseases for the past 15 years. Our diagnostic approach for localization and defining the abnormalities of the adrenals included adrenal venography and arteriography, venous hormonal assay, adrenal scanning, computerized tomography and ultrasound. On the basis of clinical results in our cases, the diagnostic studies were individually evaluated in order to provide the highest degree of accuracy with the least risk and costs for the patient involved. |
