"宮古島は台風常襲地域であり,台風通過後,海岸付近の圃場では,サトウキビが葉の枯れ上がりや裂傷などの潮風害を受けている様子が観察される.多くの農家は,潮風で葉に付着した塩分を洗い流す目的で,台風直後はスプリンクラーによる除塩散水を行う.しかしながら,実際には葉に付着した塩分がサトウキビの生育に及ぼす影響については不明な点が多い.また,除塩に必要な散水量も除塩の効果自体不明である.そこで本研究では,生育旺盛期の7月下旬と登熟期の11月上旬に,春植えサトウキビに高濃度塩水を散布して葉の枯れ上がりを人工的に再現し,その後の生育や収量,晶質の変化を調べた.あわせて,塩分に曝されたサトウキビに生じる葉の枯れ上がりや,品質変化に対する除塩散水の効果を調べた.また,実際の台風時の塩分暴露による影響を考察するための資料として,台風接近時の飛来塩分量をドライガーゼ法で測定した.試験の結果から次の知見が得た.1)塩化ナトリウム(NaCl)濃度8.8% (葉面付着塩分量とし30FLg-NaCleq./cm_2) 以上の塩水散布により,サトウキビに葉の枯れなど目視で判断できる生育障害を人工的に発生させられる事が明らかになった.2)生育旺盛期の塩水暴露による葉の枯れ上がりは,登熟期までに葉が回復する事から糖度に対する影響は小さいと推察さたが,茎の伸長を一時的に抑制した.3)登熟期の塩水暴露による葉の枯れ上がりは,生育緩慢で茎の伸長がほとんど停止している時期なので,収量への影響は小さいが,糖度低下の原因になる事が推察さた.4)10mm以上の散水で,サトウキビの葉に付着した塩分を約80%程度除塩できた.",
